Harry Potter

Finally finished Harry Potter and the Death Hallows.  I can resume normal web surfing now.  The whole time I had the book I was afraid of stumbling on a spoiler in some stupid place, like WoW forums or in [2. Trade - City].  The book was a great ending to one of the best stories ever told.  All the major plots were explained and all the loose ends tied up.  It makes it feel as though the story is a gift all wrapped up in perfect packaging. 

 

When you were a kid, did you ever build forts out of sofa cushions, pillows, and blankets?  To me, reading Harry Potter is like that feeling I had hiding in that little castle.

The best plot related event for me was finding out that Snape was a good guy all along.  He carries out some of the most difficult burdens in the whole storyline, and the way his darkness is mixed in with his good side is amazing.  It's a story worth reading again.

Dear WoW, I think we should take a break

My connection to playing WoW flows like a sine graph.  There are these huge peaks where I am playing and thinking about it all the time, then it dips into a deep valley where I think about quitting.  Right now I'm in the valley. 

I've had some exposure to Arena PvP over the last week and I'm not sure if I can commit to playing it so that I can reach the level I want.  I miss the good story elements and epic encounters of WoW that I got to see when I used to raid Molten Core, Blackwin Lair, and Ahn Qiraj.  I'd like to "casually" raid again, but I know there is no such thing as a casual raid guild.  I started out doing that and it just became impossible to raid successfully and be casual about it.  It would be nice if Blizzard could tone down the difficulty of the current raid dungeons so just about anyone could see the content if they wanted.  I guess if it were up to me, I'd have an expansion of the current Normal - Heroic difficulty to include a lot more variance.

There's a ton of stuff that will be competing with WoW for my time.  The list includes:

• BioShock
• Halo 3
• Forza 2
• Half Life 2
• Harry Potter and the Death Hallows
• Mass Effect
• Mass Effect book
• Other games I'm definitely forgetting.

However, none of these things can bring the same social connection that WoW can bring so I'm not exactly going to pull the plug.  This probably sounds stupid, but I swear WoW is like being in a bad marriage that you're too afriad to get a divorce from.  Or eating a lemon.

 

I'm still here

I have done a very bad job of keeping this up to date even though I have things to talk about.  I need to start this back up again.  I keep delaying my postings to try and give this blog a "theme" but I think i'm just going to drop that idea.
